As it turned out, Liberty would be going for their first official victory of the season and picked it up with a decisive, albeit sloppy 18-6 win over Hayward Friday night.
The Lions struggled with the Farmers double-wing formation early in the game, allowing Hayward to take an early 6-0 lead. By the second half however, Liberty was bottling up the run.
Ivan Osueguerra led the Lions offensively with 89 rushing yards. Near the end of the second quarter, he found Connor Green wide open down the right sideling for a 50 yard touchdown pass. Osueguerra played the read-option well filling in for starter Joe Tolentino who had be injured in the 2nd quarter.
Tolentino was not sharp during his time. During one stretch he threw three interceptions on consecutive pass attempts.
Liberty is on the road next week to take on powerhouse Castro Valley.
Notes-
- Kyle Trego got his first 2 interceptions of the season in the 2nd half.
- For the third consecutive game Liberty (unofficially) held their opponents scoreless in the fourth quarter.
- According to several sources, despite the forfeiture of the first 2 games of the season, all of the stats that were recorded in the 2 games will count for the individual players.
